A one day workshop designed to help you map out a plan to improve your happiness in life.
Happiness is built on four pillars.
Self Respect. Empowerment. Meaning. Belonging
Your relationship with yourself is formed early in life and influences all aspects of your way of being in the world. This presentation explains how that relationship is formed, and the influences for good or ill that are at work in how you live. Particular attention is placed on the distinction between self esteem and self respect. The prevalence of self esteem as a model for development is shown to be seriously flawed and an understanding of self respect a far more useful alternative.
Empowerment refers to a person's ability to freely create their own life. As such it is a faculty that is extremely limited and bound by all kinds of circumstances. This session is devoted to understanding ways to improve and expand the level of freedom experienced in life. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding how people make free decisions that have the effect of reducing their freedom. It will show how to break the chains of the past, with are often the greatest obstacle to freedom.
Human Beings are creatures of meaning. One of the strongest elements of the good life is a strong sense of meaning and purpose. This session looks at how a person can face the challenge of developing a sense of meaning that accounts for their own unique identity in the world. For some this will be found in a religious frame, for others not.
Human beings are social creatures. We need to connect to others. More specific we need to build strong attachment bonds to others. This session explains what emotional attachment means, and how healthy relationships work. Practical guidance on improving relationships is also presented.
